ORGMNGT FILM VIEWING

ORGMNGT FILM VIEWING – OCTOBER 30, 2008

Watch the first half of the film “The Replacements” and read the synopsis below and answer the following questions.

The Replacements (2000)

Synopsis: Shane "Footsteps" Falco is a disillusioned football player who believes his dreams have all but dissipated. Once a red-hot All American prospect, Shane now regrets ever believing that the NFL would draft him. However, fate takes a strange twist for Shane when during the 1997 NFL season, a player's strike leaves the fields (and stadiums) empty, leaving team owners scrambling to fill uniforms as fast as possible. When the Washington Sentinels bring back the contentious and self-retired head coach Jimmy McGinty to seek out players who will play with their hearts rather than their wallets, he picks Shane to lead his mismatched crew of outsiders through the strike. To everyone's surprise, the ragtag team goes on an unprecedented winning streak as they discover in themselves the ability to hope for more than they ever thought possible...maybe even the playoffs, which has been denied to the Sentinels for seven years.

Nine Essentials of a Mission Statement

1. customers
2. products or services
3. markets
4. technology
5. concern for survival, growth and profitability
6. philosophy
7. self-concept
8. concern for public image
9. concern for employees

According to Fred David, while vision tells "what do you want to become", mission tells "what is your business". A mission is a declaration of attitude and outlook.

Hence, if for instance a mission statement will pronounce that it is a Filipino-owned company intended to serve the general Filipino society~~in essence, the firm is designed to serve the Filipino citizens, adhere to Filipino customs, practices and will employ or encourage Filipino entrepreneurship for that matter.

The Phil Banking System

Here in our country, we have so many banks--universal banks, commercial banks, savings banks, thrift/rural savings bank, development or even agri-business banks. There are so many categories. What's ironic, most of the big or universal banks like BPI, Metrobank or Banco de Oro have all kinds of banks. These banks also have high visibility in the major cities.

Our banks, in my opinion, are in a "dog eats dog" thing. The strong and big banks do not help the small banks to survive. The small or new banks have slim chance of survival. These giant, depositor- hungry banks would rather buy or take over a weaker bank. They don't think of the employees who will be affected. The top executives only think of the bigger share of the pie they will get. Where is the moral responsibility to the constituents--the employees, the depositors and others? It has become a survival of the fittest.

Bank Mergers and Buyout

In the Phils, bank mergers or buyouts are not new. Commercial banks, when they want to be come stronger they try to acquire other banks. FarEast bank was taken over by BPI. Solidbank was taken over by MetroBank. UnionBank now takes over IEBank. PCIBank was taken over by Equitable Bank and now, Banco de Oro takes over Equitable Bank.

Such mergers or buyouts will have implications within the respective banks.
Within the banks, redundant positions like tellers or even IT positions could be removed. An employee is not certain wether she or he will still have work for the following day.
It will likewise have implications to the depositors whether we are talking about individual or corporate depositors. A firm transacting regularly with Bank A, accustomed to its practices and know the manager and employees she or he deals with, will be faced now and will have to transact with a totally new bank management.

Leng Goodman. big. weighs around 280lbs. can fall asleep even while standing. he knows a lot of people - a congressman, a general, a gov't official, name it, some with bad habits while most of them with good and valuable influences. and he's clean. he's big in tummy and big in spirit.

Zheal. she has nice dimples, pleasant disposition. i might be wrong but i think she also eats a lot. she doesn't mind to have lots of friends and not have a regular date at the moment. she just enjoys life as it is.

Singing Sonnel. he is the big, big boss. he's straight (hope not hardcore straight). he likes concerts and musical shows. he also likes performing infront of an audience. and he sings a lot!

The Walking Database. he is the big boss. unselfish of his ideas. boasts about how he outwitted the "Blue Pigeons".. he works a lot. and that's bad. because, he also gives us a lot of work..
